David McGuire
David McGuire has been a professional performing musician since the late 1970's and a teaching artist/professor of music since the late 1980's. McGuire has performed in a wide variety of styles including jazz, rock, ethnic, and "art" (chamber) music. In addition, he has performed in/composed for a number of new music groups (such as the word-music trio F'loom). McGuire is active as a composer and particularly enjoys collaborative work. In addition to the music-jazz-fusion ensemble (Mr. Stumble), he is currently working with several area dancer-choreographers (with premiers in Nashville, Tenn. in summer 2007 and Rochester, NY in summer-fall 2008). McGuire has been featured in the performing seasons of the Maelstrom Percussion Ensemble and has had pieces performed all over New York State (including the Eastman School). In 2003, one of his pieces was selected for a new music symposium at the University of Bucharest in Romania. In addition, he is a founding member of a regional composer's collective. McGuire, who is an advocate of liberal arts education as well as interdisciplinary collaboration, has advanced degrees in composition and music theory. He has been a presenter for numerous conferences and colloquia concerning the arts and education. He was a teaching artist for over ten years with the Aesthetic Education Institute and is a former fellow of the Leonard Bernstein Center for the Arts in Nashville, Tenn. McGuire is currently a music professor at FLCC.
