Finger Lakes Community College’s Associate in Science (A.S.) in Health Care Studies equips you with the knowledge and hands-on skills to make an impact in the rapidly growing global health care industry. FLCC’s Health Care Studies degree also provides a pathway for continued education in a four-year degree program within a wide range of health-related fields.
Program Learning Outcomes
The A.S. in Health Care Studies program covers a wide range of courses that include both general education requirements—like English Composition and Introduction to Psychology—and health-specific electives that allow students to explore their academic interests. Elective courses include engaging topics such as Microbiology, Physiology of Exercise, Sports Nutrition, Human Services in Contemporary America, and Pathophysiology.
Upon completion of the A.S. program, graduates will be able to:
- Evaluate personal career paths and interests related to employment in the health care industry.
- Apply critical reasoning to understand the skills necessary to function effectively in a wide variety of health care situations.
- Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences and apply this information to the understanding of the practice of health care, prevention, and wellness.

Upon completion of the A.S. degree, Health Care Studies graduates are prepared with the experience and credits needed to continue their education in a four-year bachelor’s degree program in the following health care fields of study:

- Respiratory Therapy
The Health Care Studies degree also covers prerequisites that can be applied to FLCC’s Nursing degree program or toward an advanced degree in Nursing at another four-year institution.
