The Outlook

Many industries require professionals who are educated in psychology and can understand or guide human behavior. The demand for psychological services is on the rise in mental health centers, substance abuse treatment clinics, schools and hospitals, among others. Pursuing a career in psychology provides you with the opportunity to work in a satisfying position helping others cope with social issues and mental health disorders.

The Program

In this degree program, you’ll receive a well-rounded education that combines psychology classes with courses in math, science, and writing. Your core classes will explore human behavior and the mind, and they will examine the influence that people’s thoughts, emotions, and behaviors have on human interaction.

This program is designed to prepare you for transfer into a bachelor’s program in psychology or a related field, including chemical dependency counseling, human services, and social work. With a four-year or advanced degree in this field, you’ll be prepared to explore occupations in a variety of subfields, some of which include:

Program Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this degree program, students will be able to:

  • Differentiate the major concepts associated with the various schools of thought in psychology (i.e., biological, psychoanalytic, learning theory, humanist, etc.).
  • Analyze the various factors that influence human behavior and how they impact individual behavioral choices.
  • Discuss ethical issues in the study and practice of psychology.
  • Apply scientific and research methods to evaluate questions and issues examined by the various schools of thought in psychology.

The Experience

Throughout your studies, you’ll develop strong scientific reasoning and core psychological science skills, both of which are essential in most career paths or four-year degree programs in psychology.

In your program experience, you’ll be guided through the process of conducting library research, constructing APA style papers, and conducting your own research, which you will present at a poster session to FLCC professors, staff and students, as well as the general public. Your research and presentation at this event will be major components of your final semester capstone portfolio.
