EMS 231 - Advanced Standing Paramedic Original II
Advanced Standing Paramedic Original II builds upon the foundational knowledge and skills developed in Advanced Standing Paramedic Original I and focuses on advanced medical management, special populations, EMS operations, and comprehensive competency validation. Instruction emphasizes integration of cognitive knowledge, psychomotor proficiency, and affective professionalism consistent with entry-level paramedic practice. Content includes immunologic, infectious, gastrointestinal, genitourinary, hematologic, and endocrine emergencies; geriatric and special population considerations; obstetric and gynecologic emergencies; pediatric advanced life support (PALS); and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP). Students apply evidence-based assessment and treatment strategies through scenario-based laboratory instruction and progressive simulation. Additional emphasis is placed on therapeutic communication, documentation, safe lifting and moving, pediatric transport, EMS operations, and emergency vehicle safety. The semester culminates in capstone integration, oral board evaluations, comprehensive written assessment, and summative psychomotor examination preparation, ensuring readiness for New York State Paramedic certification requirements and independent advanced life support practice.
