What can we help you find?

Course Types

Whether you prefer learning in person, online, or a mix of both, we offer flexible options that fit your schedule.

Choose How You Learn at FLCC

This guide will help you understand your options and select the course type that works best for you. No matter the instructional mode, every course meets the same academic standards and is taught by FLCC faculty.

In-Person (Face-to-Face)

Attend class in person on the scheduled days and times. All instruction takes place on site at an FLCC location. Provides a supportive in-person community, structure, and a set weekly schedule.

Example

Your class meets M/W/F from 12:00 to 12:50 p.m. in room 3650 at the Canandaigua campus.

Online (Asynchronous)

Complete all coursework online. There are no required live class meetings, but you’ll still have weekly deadlines. Provides maximum flexibility for students who can manage their time independently.

Example

Each week, you watch recorded lectures, complete readings, and submit assignments by Sunday night.

Online (Synchronous)

Attend class online on scheduled days and times using video conferencing. Participate live from home or another location. Provides real-time interaction without having to travel to a specific place.

Example

Your class meets Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10:00 a.m. on Webex for live instruction with real-time discussion.

Combined Online

Attend some online class sessions at scheduled times and complete additional coursework on your own schedule. All work is completed online. Provides a balance of structure and flexibility.

Example

You join one live online session weekly, then watch recorded lectures and complete assignments at any time before the deadline.

Hybrid

Attend class in person on scheduled days. Complete additional coursework online outside of class time. Provides face-to-face learning with fewer trips to campus.

Example

You meet in person every Wednesday and complete online discussions, quizzes, and assignments the rest of the week.

HyFlex

Attend class in person, live online, or watch the recording on your own. You decide for each class session. Provides flexibility with the option of live instruction.

Example

One week you attend in person, the next week you join live online, and the next week you watch the recording later.

Live Dual Delivery

Attend class at scheduled times, either in person or online. Provides real-time instruction with flexible participation options.

Example

Your class meets on Mondays at 6:00 p.m. You attend either in the classroom or online live at that time.
