From roller coaster marriage proposals to Batman seeking therapy for seasonal depression, the spring theatre production is a compilation of comedic and dramatic short plays linked by common themes and styles.
On April 3, 4, and 5, students will stage “Points on the Curve: Offbeat Accounts of Interconnection and Chilled Toast” at the main campus in Canandaigua.
Johnathan Shaw
With a combination of original works and pieces by award-winning playwrights, the production offers variety and entertainment.
Performances will be held in the Student Center Auditorium, 3325 Marvin Sands Drive, on Thursday, April 3 at 7:30 p.m., Friday, April 4 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, April 5 at 2 and 7:30 p.m. General admission is $15 at the door, $10 for seniors and students who attend other schools, and free with an FLCC ID.
Second-year theatre arts major Johnathan Shaw of Penn Yan will perform for the first time. He has been cast in five pieces and looks forward to playing Bill, an amusing character who seeks advice from a friend at 3 a.m. after an accident.
Juan Espana II
“Having to learn all the shows and creating different characters was a challenge that I hadn’t overcome before,” said Johnathan. “It has been fun.”
Johnathan said he’s also enjoyed working with alumni due to their experience and willingness to provide guidance.
Fellow Penn Yan graduate and FLCC alum, Juan Espana II ’20 will also join the production. Juan has worked in several productions at the College, including comedian Steve Martin’s play “Picasso at the Lapin Agile.”
FLCC offers a unique opportunity for its graduates to return to campus, not just as visitors, but as participants in the College’s theatre program. Alumni can return to perform in shows, contribute to the design and production aspects, and even mentor current students.
The FLCC cast also includes Jason Forzano of Geneva, Liam Houle ’24 of Canandaigua, Harmony Hyde of Wolcott, Jenny Martin of Farmington, Evan Meyer of Waterloo, Natalie Mix of Canandaigua, Sky D. Slack ’20 of Naples, and Pearl Walker of Springwater.
The production team includes director Jim Perri, technical theatre and auditorium manager; Kathryn Snyder ’08, lighting and stage management; Brandon Wyand ’18, sound and scenic construction; Echo Burke, assistant to the director; Chloe Stupin, stage management; Skye Wyand ’24, scenic and graphic art, and Paul Engin, video elements.
