Summer in Sicily: Study Abroad Program

Choose from courses in anthropology, design, architecture, geology, drawing, photography, and more at the renowned MADE School of Arts and Sciences.

Syracuse offers natural and architectural beauty at every turn. Take field trips to Mount Etna, attend live performances, enjoy cooking courses, and explore Eastern Sicily with private transportation.

  • Eligibility

    This trip is open to current FLCC students from any program, and students from other colleges who meet these requirements:

    • Be at least 18 years of age
    • Be in good academic and disciplinary standing
    • Have at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA verified with an official transcript
    • Have a valid passport that does not expire until at least 6 months after the program

    Complete our MADE interest form and we will be in touch to schedule a meeting.  

    How to Enroll

    The following enrollment steps must be completed by February 15:

    • Meet with a faculty trip advisor to discuss details of the trip
    • Meet with your academic advisor to ensure this trip fits in with your academic plan
    • Meet with a financial aid counselor to confirm financial obligation and use of aid for the trip
    • Begin your passport application immediately if you do not have one, or it won't be valid
    • Submit any official college transcripts if you do not attend FLCC
    • Submit required payments  

       

     

  • Program Costs

    A key benefit of this study abroad program is the comprehensive package. Here's what's included in the MADE program fee:

    • Housing: Furnished apartment accommodation in Syracuse for the 5-week program, including utilities.
    • Excursions & Field Trips: Day trips, including entry fees to museums and sites.
    • Cultural Activities: Organized experiences such as welcome and farewell group meals, cooking classes, and workshops.
    • Transportation: Private bus service for all field trips, airport transfers, and excursions.
    • On-site Support & Safety: 24/7 emergency assistance and on-site program coordinators.
    • Tuition: MADE course fee included.

    MADE Labs Add-On

    Extend your trip past July 4 and sign up for one or both of MADE's high-intensity labs. Led by world-renowned creative professionals MADE Labs provide an opportunity for students to “level up” and enhance their skills through the creative process. They are guided by thematic perspectives on world issues such as sustainability or migration.

  • Earn 6-8 Credits in Italy

    Students will take one FLCC course and one MADE course, with the option to add on a MADE lab session. MADE courses qualify for FLCC credit. 

    Choose One FLCC Course:

    • ART 100 (3 credits) – Art History: Prehistory to Middle Ages
    • THE 220 (3 credits) – Theatre History: Greeks through the 18th Century
    • VIT 110 (5 credits) – Summer Vineyard Technology Practicum

  • Your home for the summer will be a fully furnished apartment in Syracuse’s city center, shared with other FLCC or MADE program students. Living in a local apartment means you’ll experience day-to-day life like a real resident. You'll shop at the grocery store, say buongiorno to neighbors, and perhaps even learn to brew Italian coffee in the morning. It’s an immersive living experience that a hotel or dorm can’t match.
