Flick returns to SUNY Mascot Madness

Student Life
March 6, 2026 By Jaylea Ransom

FLCC’s lake monster mascot will compete for the second time in SUNY’s annual competition beginning March 10.

Students pose with Flick while holding “Vote for Flick” signs.
Flick has been the College's mascot since 2015.

After competing for the first time last year and defeating Roody Roo from SUNY Canton and Hugo Hawk from SUNY New Paltz before falling to Wolfie the Seawolf from Stony Brook University, Flick is back on the hunt to be crowned the SUNY Mascot Ambassador.

Similar to the NCAA March Madness tournament, Mascot Madness is broken down into 5 rounds.

Flick poses to dunk a basketball at the hoop. Flick hopes to make a slam dunk in this year's competition. Mascots win by getting the most votes from faculty, students, alumni and community members in online and social media voting.

Round one voting opens Tuesday, March 10, at noon.

  • Anyone can vote!
  • Fans are encouraged to share voting information with anyone who can help Flick battle against other mascots.

Vote for Flick

There's no need to stick only to brackets featuring Flick. Votes can be cast in any bracket, for example, community colleges could join forces and vote for any community college mascot. (Hint, hint.)

As the rounds progress, social media voting will contribute to the final vote count.

Updates will be posted on the official SUNY Instagram account (@SUNY), the FLCC Instagram account (@flcc_connects) and FLCC Student Life account (@flccstudentlife) as the competition progresses.

How Flick made waves last year

Flick poses with a faculty member while students observe and laugh. Members of the FLCC community rallied to support Flick in last year’s competition. Once Flick became the only mascot from a two-year college to reach the third round, mascots from other colleges joined in support.

SUNY Adirondack shared a social post stating:
“Eddy isn’t a wolf to stick his highly sensitive nose where it doesn’t belong, but he can’t help but howl a bit for Flick.”

Red, SUNY Oneonta’s dragon mascot, wrote to Flick:
“Dragons and lake monsters stick together! In fact, are we … cousins?”

The competition features friendly rivalry and often includes social media posts, videos and memes designed to spark laughter and participation.

Each mascot participating in the competition also has a Meet the Mascot section that gives voters a glimpse into their personality.

The competition concludes Thursday, April 2, at 3 p.m. An official 2026 Mascot Madness tournament bracket is available for download.
