The mosaic includes more than 17,000 LEGO pieces, many of which were ordered from LEGO.com, third-party sellers, or donated by students.
LEGO Club President Landon Ingersoll came up with the idea last year while planning for the fall 2024 Laker Day. After collecting the pieces, students at the “Legos on Laker Day” event began making the mosaic and completed it a few weeks later.
Matthew Tomer, Landon Ingersoll and Aidan Dillon unveiled the mosaic for Laker Day.
Laker Day, a long-standing tradition at the College, is held each fall and spring to give students, faculty, and staff an opportunity to connect outside the classroom.
The mosaic project was made possible through funding from the FLCC Student Corporation. Local artist Frank Allen also contributed by professionally framing the mosaic to ensure its preservation.
On Tuesday, April 29, LEGO Club will partner with FLCC’s Active Minds chapter and the Psychology Club to host LEGO Day. Now in its third year, the event promotes mental wellness through creative expression. This year’s theme “Rebuilding Mental Health Brick by Brick,” invites students, faculty, and staff to build with LEGOs and discuss mental health resources on and off campus.
Building with LEGOs has become a popular way for students to relax and connect with others. It offers both a break from academics and an opportunity to spark creativity.
