Snapshots and Stories: An FLCC Study Abroad Experience in South Africa
Thursday, February 05, 2026
Faculty will give an overview of this summer's South Africa travel course, which is open to the community.
Finger Lakes Community College will host an information session on a summer travel course to a South African wildlife refuge on Thursday, Feb. 5, at the main campus.
“Snapshots and Stories: An FLCC Study Abroad Experience in South Africa” begins at 5 p.m. in Stage 14 on the second floor of the Student Center.
The trip, scheduled for July 3 to 20, is open to students, alumni and community members at least 18 years old.
Faculty leaders John Bateman and Maura Sullivan will share stories and photography from a previous trip in 2024 and provide details about this year’s opportunity.
Participants learn wildlife tracking techniques and study the flora and fauna of the South African ecosystem through guided game drives and walking safaris. They also learn about the social history of South Africa and visit the former home of Nelson Mandela.
“It is absolutely incredible, a life-changing experience for me and I think for everyone else,” said John Bateman.
Costs and other details are on the FLCC website at flcc.edu/Africa.
