Thursday, October 09, 2025
The online talk is available through multiple outlets and marks the 160th anniversary of the end of the Civil War.
Historian Robert M. Dunkerly will give an online talk at FLCC based on his book “To the Bitter End: Appomattox, Bennett Place and the Surrenders of the Confederacy.”
His talk on Thursday, Oct. 9, at 7 p.m. will be available on the Webex videoconferencing platform, the Finger Lakes TV network, and YouTube.
Robert Dunkerly
Dunkerly is the author of a dozen books and many scholarly articles based on his research of colonial life, military history, and historic commemoration. Dunkerly has worked at 14 historic sites and is currently a park ranger at Richmond National Battlefield Park. He has taught courses at Central Virginia Community College, the University of Richmond, and the Virginia Historical Society.
“To the Bitter End” tackles the last days of the Civil War, which did not end with a single event, but a series of surrenders. It addresses little-known events and the environment in which the Confederacy collapsed.
Dunkerly’s talk marks the 160th anniversary of the end of the Civil War. It is part of the History, Culture and Diversity Series, organized by Robert Brown, FLCC professor of history.
